Basically, this is a simple process that ensures that your nursing license is active and in good standing within your state. Just how do you go about verifying an RN license? Read on to find out!

  1. Check Your State's Verification Process - The first thing you must do to verify your RN license is check your state's verification process. Many states offer license verification services directly through their websites. If yours also do that, just navigate to your state's Board of Nursing website and look for a link to a license verification page.

    Then, simply follow the directions as provided on the license verification webpage. There may or may not be a small fee for this service, as it depends on the state where you are licensed. Be prepared to provide the following information when seeking RN license verification through a Board of Nursing website:

    • Your Full Name as it Appears on Your RN License
    • Your RN License Number
    • Your Social Security Number
    • Your Date of Birth
  2. Log Onto the Nursys License Verification Website - Many states today offer RN license verifications through the Nursys website. If your state does not offer verification services, log on to the Nursys website. There is a small fee for this service, and you will need to create a Nursys' account. However, the procedure is extremely simple and straight-forward.

    RN license verifications through the Nursys website are valid for 90 days, after which time you will need to submit a new verification request. At the current time, if you are requesting verification from Nursys, you will need to provide the system with the following information for a valid license verification:

    • Your Full Name
    • An Email Address
    • Your Social Security Number
    • Your RN License Number
    • A Valid Credit Card Number

Make Sure You Fulfill All Requirements - Whether you verify your RN license through the Nursys' website or the website of your state's Board of Nursing, it is essential that you fulfill any requirements necessary for verification. Double-check of all the fields of your webpage to ensure that you are providing the website with all of the information it needs.

    In most cases, as long as you provide the required information to the Nursys' website or your state's Board of Nursing website, you can receive your verification almost immediately.
