The importance of obtaining BSN programs

You can already be a Registered Nurse and work in a hospital after two or three years of studying in a college. But if you are really interested to have a higher salary and have better position in your working place, you can take a Bachelor of Science in Nursing which usually takes two additional years.

Meanwhile, some Registered Nurses are quite apprehensive to take another two years of studying, concerned that they might not be able to work. But with many online BSN programs available nowadays, anyone can graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree even while they are working in a hospital.

Another reason why some Registered Nurses are hesitant to take BSN programs is their belief that their experience is already enough. Contrary to this belief, academicians consider that anyone who works in a medical profession should always study and learn new things in order to improve one’s self, and this includes getting another two years of studying to gain a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Other advantages of having BSN degree

When a Registered Nurse has already a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, he/she can have specialized skills which can result to a higher salary. All BSN programs can provide specialized career training which can help people to improve their skills and medical knowledge.

So for those who are planning to work in an environment which demands specialized skills including psychiatric ward, hospice, psychological clinics, intensive care units, surgeon’s room, and midwives clinics, it is important to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree.

Another advantage of obtaining a Bachelor of Science is that a person will learn new knowledge and skills which can further help him/her to provide the best service to the patients and the hospital.

Meanwhile, people who have a degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing have better opportunity to attain higher positions in the hospital compared to those who have none.  Also, for those people who want to have management position (because it is less physically demanding compared to rank-and-file position), they should take BSN programs.

Having a degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing will also make a person’s educational background more appealing to the employers which makes it easier to find a good job with higher salary.

Some concerns of students who want to take BSN programs

Many hospitals offer its nursing staff financial assistance and even scholarship grant if they would like to continue studying for another two years to obtain BSN degree. Meanwhile, you can also seek financial assistance from the government, private groups, and non-government organizations.

Another major concern of most Registered Nurses is that they still have some work to do in the hospital which means they have no time to go to school and study their lessons. Since there are many accredited nursing schools which provide online BSN programs to students, Registered Nurses can have their Bachelor of Science degree even they are working from a hospital or clinic.
